USPS Priority Mail Cubic pricing options now available in ReadyShipper shipping software
ReadyShipper shipping software now offers the special discounted pricing for USPS Priority Mail Cubic shipping rates. The USPS priority mail cubic pricing is a new program that offers rates based on the volume of the box, instead of the weight. As long as the weight is less than 20 pounds and the volume less than .5 cubic feet, the package is eligible for cubic pricing. The USPS Priority Mail Cubic shipping option is a great option for small, but heavy packages and can save your business lots of money if your packages fall into one of the following Tier options.
The pricing breakdown follows the basic formula laid out by USPS for their different tiers:
Length X Width X Height / 1728 = Cubic Feet
The USPS rounds all measurements down to the nearest .25 inch for the cubic feet calculations.
- Tier 1 pricing = packages up to .10 cubic foot
- Tier 2 pricing = packages from .10 to .20 cubic foot
- Tier 3 pricing = packages from .20 to .30 cubic foot
- Tier 4 pricing = packages from .30 to .40 cubic foot
- Tier 5 pricing = packages from .40 to .50 cubic foot
Here’s an example of how to calculate the cubic tier measurement for your rectangular and nonrectangular packages:
Measure the length, width and height of your package in inches. Round each measurement down to the nearest .25 inch. For example, a length of 6.10 inches would be rounded down to 6 inches exactly or 5.85 inches would be rounded down to 5.75 inches.
Then, simply multiply the length by the width by the height and divide that number by 1728. If the package were 5 x 6.25 x 5.75, then it would be 5 x 6.25 x 5.75 / 1728 = .103. This would fall into the Tier 2 pricing for USPS Priority Mail Cubic Pricing.
